San Diego's nickname is "America's Finest City" - take a class here to find out why! With sunny, warm weather year-round and plenty of beaches, parks and cultural history to enjoy, San Diego has something for everyone.
Students will visit and learn about California history in Old Town, as well as explore Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in North America. They will also spend time at the world-famous La Jolla cove, visit downtown San Diego's beautiful waterfront, and learn about the city's military history with a visit to the USS Midway.

Learn about community and American culture, and make global connections through our Make a Difference and Discover the U.S. courses. Created just for au pairs, these courses will help you navigate the many emotions and experiences that come with living abroad in the United States. Build connections with your au pair classmates through a variety of excursions, activities, and engaging in class discussions.
To accommodate travel time between the airport and class, plan to arrive for your course on a flight NO LATER than 12:30 pm on Friday and depart no earlier than 6:30 pm on Monday.
Attendance is mandatory beginning on Friday with check-in, and does not end until Monday at 4:00 p.m. Students are expected to attend the full weekend and complete all assignments to receive their Completion Letter. We understand emergencies and important scheduling conflicts can occur, so please contact the program coordinator as soon as possible if there is a situation that prevents you from meeting any of these requirements.
After registering for this course, you’ll get a link to join Canvas the day that your pre-assignments become available.
Hours include pre-weekend assignments, post-weekend assignments, and a course evaluation. Check with your au pair agency regarding hours and credits, as requirements vary. Scheduled activities may be subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and may be different from previous weekends.
IN YOUR FIRST FEW MONTHS AS AN AU PAIR?
Are you in your first few months as an au pair in the United States? This location offers a special track just for you! Registering for our New Arrival track allows you to take this course with a cohort of other new au pairs. You'll receive specialized training to help with stress management, culture shock, and conflict resolution so that you can start your year abroad with confidence. PLEASE NOTE: For the January 2024 weekend, only the Advanced level will be offered.
Each option includes 3 weeks of zoom classes leading up to the 4-day in-person classes in
San Diego. Attendance is mandatory for all zoom classes.

Get the most out of your time in the United States by improving your English skills! Learn about American accents, cultural traditions, and travel tips - all while exploring the sights and history of San Diego!
Learning about culture shock stages and self care practices will help you overcome the struggles of living in a new country. Developing your fluency and confidence will help you express yourself, so that you can more easily connect with your host family and local community. HOUSING & TRANSPORTATION
Housing is not automatically included for students who attend a weekend course. However, in San Diego students can choose to add a housing option at a hotel for an additional charge.
During your course registration, you can add three nights of housing at a local hotel for an additional cost of $190 - $250 for 3 nights.
