New York City Course Details

Full course attendance and the completion of all assignments are required to receive a completion letter.
✈️ To accommodate travel time between the airport and class, plan to arrive for your course on a flight NO LATER than 11:00 am on Friday and depart no earlier than 7:30 pm on Sunday.
📝 Attendance is mandatory beginning on Friday with check-in, and does not end until Sunday at 4:30 pm. Students are expected to attend the full weekend and complete all assignments to receive their Completion Letter. We understand emergencies and important scheduling conflicts can occur, so please contact the program coordinator as soon as possible if there is a situation that prevents you from meeting any of these requirements.
After registering for this course, you’ll get a link to join Canvas the day that your pre-assignments become available.
🕐 Hours include pre-weekend assignments, post-weekend assignments, and a course evaluation. Check with your au pair agency regarding hours and credits, as requirements vary.

Expand your artistic talents with an Arts & Entertainment course! Art topics include sketching and photography for Visual Arts students, and drama, dance, and musical theater for Performing Arts students (depending on staff availability). Step out of the classroom and experience the dream of studying in The Big Apple. You'll leave these three-day weekends with a better understanding of New York City and yourself.

HOUSING
Take advantage of Au Pair Weekend's partnership with Hostelling International in NYC! Just add housing to your purchase when registering for a course.
Housing is not included with registration for this course. However, as a convenience to students we offer the option of adding housing at a hostel within 30 minutes of our campus by subway. Beds are limited and may sell out; they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can add a 2-night stay (Friday & Saturday) at the hostel in a shared room with 8-20 beds. There will be a $50 administration fee for all housing refunds. Refunds only allowed up to 30 days prior to the weekend start date.

Although some days will start and end in different locations, in general, classes are in the Bryant Park area. Classes are held at Berkeley College near Grand Central Station. Please take this into consideration when choosing your accommodation.

The closest metro stations to the building are Grand Central on the 4, 5, 6, 7, and S Lines (2-3 minute walk), 42 St-Bryant Park Station on the B, D and F Lines (5 minute walk), Times Sq-42 Street on the N, Q, R and W Lines (5 minute walk), 51st Street on the 4 and 6 Lines (10 minute walk), and Lexington Ave-53rd on the E and M Lines (10 minute walk)

If you are arriving at Penn Station, you can walk 15 - 20 minutes to the building, or take the 1-2-3 metro line to the Times Sq-42nd street stop.
Travel Between Airports & Campus

Uber costs from airports typically around $40-50 from LaGuardia/JFK airports, $80 from Newark airport

If you are arriving at Newark airport, there are multiple NJ transit trains (as well as Amtrak, though it is more expensive) which go straight from Newark Airport Rail Station to Penn Station.

If you are arriving at LaGuardia Airport, you can take the Q70 bus to Roosevelt Av/74 St and then the F or M metro trains to 42nd street/Bryant Park and walk five minutes from there.

If you are arriving at JFK airport, you can take the airport AirTrain to Jamaica station. From there, you can take the E train to Lexington Av/53 St. Here, you can either walk 15 - 20 minutes to the building or transfer to the 6 train and get off at Grand Central and walk 5 minutes.

Alternatively, you can take the AirTrain to Jamaica station and take the M1, M3, M4 or Q32 bus and get off at 5 Avenue-53 St Station. From here, you can walk 15-20 minutes or transfer to the M4 bus at 5 Av/W 52 St and get off at 5 Av/41 st and walk five minutes.
