More Than Credits: 20 Years!
Every APW course is equivalent to college credits which help au pairs meet their educational requirements and build toward their future. But after 20 years, we know the credits are only part of the story. It’s also about…
Connection. Au pairs often arrive in the U.S. knowing no one. At APW, they meet people from dozens of countries who understand exactly what they are experiencing. Many of those friendships last for years.
Experience. From museums to national parks to volunteer projects, APW courses were built to take learning outside the classroom. Our founders designed courses that au pairs would learn from, enjoy, and remember.
Growth. A new city, a new language, a new routine. Every APW course is a chance for au pairs to build confidence and discover what they are capable of.
The People Behind 20 Years of APW
Our founders. Dr. Lora Anderson Cook and Jude Cook brought backgrounds in international education and law, experience as a host family, and years of work supporting au pairs. They built APW around what au pairs actually needed.
Our team. APW's staff has always been a community of its own. Lora is especially proud that APW has offered flexible work to a team made up mostly of women, serving a student community that is also mostly women.
Our instructors and Curriculum Committee. Instructors bring expertise in education, culture, language, history, law, and intercultural communication. Our Curriculum Committee reviews every course to keep it relevant, inclusive, and high quality.
Our university partners. Our academic partners make it possible for au pairs to earn credit while they explore the U.S.
Our agency partners. Agencies and their local representatives support au pairs every day. We are grateful for their trust and collaboration.
Our students. More than 60,000 au pairs from over 90 countries. Every course is shaped by their curiosity, feedback, and energy.
After 20 years, APW is still about the same thing it was in 2006: people learning from each other.
