Wilderness & Wellness

Colorado.png

Our Wilderness & Wellness course blends classic outdoor adventures—like zip lining, time in nature, and campfire storytelling—with wellness activities including meditation, art in nature, and daily practices that build personal health and balance. You'll also learn essential outdoor skills such as knot tying and fire building, while exploring the wonders of the natural world. Our program is designed to accommodate a diverse range of interests and fitness levels, so come prepared for fun and adventure. Nature is our classroom!

If you are flying into Colorado, please schedule a flight which will arrive at the Denver airport NO LATER than 10:30 am on Thursday, and schedule a return flight which departs no earlier than 4:30 pm on Sunday.

Attendance is mandatory beginning on Thursday with check-in, and does not end until Sunday at 2:30 pm. Students are expected to attend the full weekend and complete all assignments to receive their Completion Letter. We understand emergencies and important scheduling conflicts can occur, so please contact the program coordinator, as soon as possible, if there is a situation that prevents you from meeting any of these requirements.

After registering for this course, you’ll get a link to join Canvas the day that your pre-assignments become available.

Hours include pre-weekend assignments, post-weekend assignments, and a course evaluation. Check with your au pair agency regarding hours and credits, as requirements vary. Scheduled activities may be subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and may be different from previous weekends.

Wilderness & Wellness in the Colorado Rockies!

Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Estes Park, CO, is the home of our new Wilderness & Wellness program, an immersive educational experience connecting nature and personal well-being. The program includes lessons on environmental stewardship and mental and physical health concepts/practices, as well as outdoor adventures like hiking and zip lining with wellness activities such as yoga and meditation. Designed for all fitness levels, this nature-based curriculum inspires balance, growth, and ecological awareness. Participants will explore the science of wilderness wellness and learn strategies for balancing their connection to self and the environment.

HOUSING

Housing for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights is included in the course price at the Salvation Army High Peak Camp in Estes Park, Colorado. Students will stay in a room with 2–3 students per bedroom, each with a private bed.

A charter bus will be provided for students to and from the Denver airport. On Thursday, the bus will leave from the airport at noon. On Sunday, the bus will return to the airport by 2:30 p.m. If your flight arrives after the bus leaves at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, you will need to call for a shuttle and arrange for your own transportation to Estes Park where our course is located. The average shuttle cost is around $80 per person.

As a courtesy, APW is also offering the option of adding housing Wednesday night at a hotel near the airport. Flights into the Denver airport are often delayed or cancelled due to weather conditions and other unexpected delays. Because the shuttle bus cannot be delayed for students who are running late on Thursday, students may choose to fly into Denver on Wednesday and stay at the hotel Wednesday to minimize the risk of missing the shuttle bus or arriving late to the program. The hotel offers a free shuttle from the airport, and the bus to Estes Park will pick students up at the hotel Thursday at 12:15pm.

APW will not cover the cost of transportation for any students who arrive late.

TRANSPORTATION TO CAMPUS

Travel Between Airport & Campus

The weekend begins with check-in at the Denver Airport just before noon on Thursday.

At the end of the weekend, we will bus students back to the Denver airport.
