Explore Boston and make global connections while learning about community and American culture through our Discover & Connect in the U.S. courses. Created just for au pairs, these courses will help you navigate the many emotions and experiences that come with living abroad in the United States. Build connections with your au pair classmates through a variety of excursions, activities, and engaging in class discussions.
To accommodate travel time between the airport and class, plan to arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and depart no earlier than 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Attendance is mandatory beginning on Thursday with check-in, and does not end until Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Students are expected to attend the full weekend and complete all assignments to receive their Completion Letter. We understand emergencies and important scheduling conflicts can occur, so please contact the program coordinator as soon as possible if there is a situation that prevents you from meeting any of these requirements.
After registering for this course, you’ll get a link to join Canvas the day that your pre-assignments become available.
Hours include pre-weekend assignments, post-weekend assignments, and a course evaluation. Check with your au pair agency regarding hours and credits, as requirements vary. Scheduled activities may be subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and may be different from previous weekends.
Courses are offered in collaboration with
Boston is not only one of the oldest cities in the U.S.—it's also known as the "City on a Hill," the Walking City, the Cradle of Liberty, Beantown, and Titletown.
Students will discover this incredible city by visiting historic locations such as the revolutionary Freedom Trail, Quincy Market, or the Boston Public Library. They may also explore connections and community on the Harvard campus or visit important cultural sites such as the Massachusetts State House. Wherever this weekend takes you, you'll come away with a deeper understanding of—and love for—this beautiful city and its diverse people.

-
Brookline Ave opp Short St bus stop
Use the MBTA Trip Planner to plan your public transportation in the Boston area. Bus 47 and 70 are the ones that travel most in this area.
Travel Between Airports & Campus
Plan for an hour on weekend travels. Keep in mind that traffic gets very congested and can cause delays up to 20-30 mins.
Traveling from the suggested HI Hostel to campus
The suggested hostel is a 15 minute drive from campus or 25 minutes using the Green “E” Line train. Make sure the subway train says “E” on it as several other letters travel on the Green line.
Campus Parking
We highly recommend taking public transportation if possible. This is a very congested part of Boston, so driving and parking may take a very long time.
If you have to drive to campus please plan on leaving at least an hour early to ensure you arrive on time. Street parking is extremely limited in this area, so parking garages are the best option.
Nearby parking garage options:
-
Pilgrim Road Garage (170 Pilgrim Rd, Boston, MA 02215)
-
333 Longwood Garage (98 Binney St, Boston, MA 02115). This is used by visitors and patients of Boston Children's Hospital and can be busy and full.
-
Feldberg Garage (330 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02115). Reviews say it is tight and narrow parking.
Parking lot rates are between $20 - $30 per day. You can use the SpotHero app or the following parking websites: ParkWhiz, Spot Angels, or ParkMe to reserve a discount spot before you go.
