Arts & Entertainment

Interested in both Performing Arts and Visual Arts? Study both in one weekend with this course! Through a mixture of lectures, workshops and interactive excursions, you'll learn about the history of the arts in the U.S. and the way arts and entertainment help create social change. You'll also attend a Latin dance class to learn moves from professionals and visit a local art museum.
Get to know your au pair classmates as you work collaboratively to create new artwork! You'll engage in class discussions where you can bring your own unique perspectives to the conversation and learn about the importance of creativity and the creative process.
To accommodate travel time between the airport and class, plan to arrive for your course on a flight NO LATER than 12:00 pm on Thursday and depart no earlier than 6:30 pm on Sunday.
We strongly encourage students to fly to Miami a day or two before the course begins or to stay a couple of days after the course in order to have time to explore on your own. Our course is scheduled with long days, so please plan free time for yourself before or after the course dates.
Attendance is mandatory beginning on Thursday with check-in, and does not end until Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Students are expected to attend the full weekend and complete all assignments to receive their Completion Letter. We understand emergencies and important scheduling conflicts can occur, so please contact the program coordinator as soon as possible if there is a situation that prevents you from meeting any of these requirements.
After registering for this course, you’ll get a link to join Canvas the day that your pre-assignments become available.
Hours include pre-weekend assignments, post-weekend assignments, and a course evaluation. Check with your au pair agency regarding hours and credits, as requirements vary. Scheduled activities may be subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and may be different from previous weekends.

HOUSING
Reserve Housing with Your APW Registration
Miami Housing is NOT included in this price. As a convenience to students, we offer the option of housing at the same hotel where classes will be held. Housing is only available on a first-come, first-served basis; there may not be enough rooms and beds to accommodate all students. A hot breakfast and wifi are included with all rooms.
Each person staying at the hotel must register and pay for their spot. Prices listed reflect a discount because multiple students share a room (we do not offer any private rooms). Please select only one optional housing option. Three individuals will share a room, two queen beds and one sofa bed. If you would like to share with a friend, please make sure to choose bed options that are compatible.
There will be a $50 administration fee for all housing refunds. Refunds only allowed up to 30 days prior to the weekend start date.
Please keep travel time in mind if you arrange housing on your own.
