Wilderness & Wellness

Our Wilderness & Wellness course demonstrates the symbiotic connection between nature and personal wellness. All activities and learning are designed to reinforce the concept that when an individual is balanced and connected to themselves and nature, the benefits flow both ways, enhancing personal well-being and supporting a healthier environment.

Our Wilderness & Wellness course offers classic outdoor adventures like hiking, zip lining, and stories around the campfire along with wellness activities focused on yoga, meditation, and self care. We also include outdoor essentials, such as knot tying and fire building, as well as lessons in environmental stewardship. Our program is designed to accommodate a diverse range of interests and fitness levels…Nature is our classroom!

Advanced English (6 Credits)

This course focuses on helping au pairs improve their conversational and language survival skills. The course focuses on speaking and listening as students build the everyday communication skills that they will need to successfully interact with their host family and community. They will be able to practice their skills in a safe, encouraging environment with other au pairs who are also interested in improving their English.

Intermediate or Advanced English (3 Credits)

The Intermediate or Advanced English NYC courses focus on helping students get the most out of their time in the United States by improving their English skills. Students learn about American accents, cultural traditions, and travel tips - all while getting to explore the sights and history of New York City. Students practice their listening and speaking skills with interesting classroom discussions and workshops, and strengthen their reading and writing skills with written assignments. They also learn American expressions and idioms. This course is offered in two levels: Intermediate or Advanced.

Arts & Entertainment in the U.S.A. (6 Credits)

Arts and Entertainment in the USA’s primary objective is for au pairs to experience American culture through learning about and participating in the fields of arts and entertainment. This course provides an introduction to all of the fields within Arts and Entertainment in the USA, including performing arts and visual arts. An emphasis is placed on learning about the history and culture of Miami. Students will explore well known arts and entertainment locations in Miami, and will experience what makes the city a unique arts and entertainment destination.

Arts & Entertainment: Performing Arts OR Visual Arts

Au Pair Weekend’s Arts and Entertainment curriculum allows students to experience American culture through learning about and participating in the fields of arts and entertainment. Through a mixture of lectures, workshops and interactive excursions, students receive a thorough introduction to arts and entertainment history, as well as have the opportunity to learn practical skills in visual arts and/or performing arts. Au pairs also learn about the role arts and entertainment has played in creating social change, as well as the role that arts and entertainment plays in influencing popular culture. Students participate in lectures and activities that teach them the importance of creativity and the creative process. Throughout the weekend, students engage in interactive, hands-on experiences that are designed to help them explore and develop their own creative skills. Each weekend culminates in some type of performance or exhibition that the students participate in. An emphasis is placed on learning about the arts and entertainment-related history and culture of the city the student is attending the program in. This curriculum is the equivalent of 36 educational hours.

The performing arts (PA) program provides an in depth look at performing arts, including theater, film/TV, dance, and music. The visual arts (VA) curriculum focuses primarily on visual arts, including street art, travel journals/mixed media, photography, and color design and sketching.

Make A Difference & Discover the U.S. Combo

Our Make a Difference and Discover the U.S. Combo turns the two courses into one fun-filled adventure! The Make a Difference course is designed specifically to help au pairs navigate the cultural and personal challenges of living in the U.S. Students will learn important life skills through an engaging combination of classroom discussions, community activities, and assignments. They will also discuss cultural diversity in the U.S. and learn to successfully interact with people from different backgrounds and life experiences.

The Discover the U.S. course will help students gain in-depth knowledge of U.S. geography while also learning about exciting events in U.S. history and how they have influenced the current U.S. political culture and process.


The Discover the U.S. and Make a Difference Combo curriculum combines the student learning objectives and curricular content from our Discover the U.S. and Make a Difference courses. This is available as an in person program, as well as an online program. This combo course allows for au pairs to complete their educational requirement for the year through enrolling in one longer course. Our in person program consists of an intensive 4 day weekend. Students have the opportunity to earn the equivalent of 60 or 72 educational hours, as au pair agencies have different requirements with regards to hours needed in order to fulfill the educational requirement. Students who earn the equivalent of 60 educational hours complete fewer assignments in Canvas than the students who earn the equivalent of 72 hours.

Make a Difference

This course is designed specifically to help au pairs navigate the cultural and personal challenges of living in the U.S. Au pairs learn important life skills through an engaging combination of classroom discussions, community activities, and student assignments. They discuss cultural diversity in the United States and learn to successfully interact with people from different backgrounds and life experiences. They benefit from being in a diverse classroom, which allows them to make new friends with individuals from all over the world and put everything they are learning into practice. They also learn ways to deepen their connection with their community.

Our Arts and Entertainment in the USA course will give students the opportunity to channel their creativity and take an ​in-depth ​look ​at ​what the U.S. has to offer in the ​fields ​of ​arts and entertainment! ​Through ​a ​combination ​of ​classroom ​discussions, ​hands-on ​workshops, ​and ​excursions ​around Seattle, they ​see for themselves ​why it is one of the “the ​creative ​capitals ​of ​the ​world”.​

Discover the U.S.

This course is designed to help au pairs gain a greater understanding of the United States, while giving them the opportunity to share their home country's culture with other students and compare it to key aspects of American life. Students learn about U.S. geography, as well as significant events in U.S. history and how they have influenced the current U.S. political culture and process. Through various excursions and activities, they explore and further understand the historical and cultural identity of the city they are visiting.
