36 hours (equivalent of 3 credits); Course will become available on October 9th, 2020 at 5pm PST
Virtual Volunteering Project Focus: You will work with an environmental reserve in Costa Rica, to help educate people about the reserve and its importance in the local community.
You will be working with an environmental reserve in Costa Rica, that supplies the local communities and their surroundings with a nature preserve, and a necessary source of income from ecotourism. The reserve includes populations of various animals that have been endangered, such as the tapir, jaguar, and quetzal, which have been revived thanks to the efforts of the reserve. You will be learning about the reserve’s goals and mission, and the challenges facing the reserve and conservation in general. You will help create marketing, promotional and workshop material for the reserve, so that they can reach a wider audience and bring in more financial support to the region. You have the exciting opportunity to help this reserve and support the surrounding communities by increasing awareness and educating others.
This course is approximately 6 weeks in length, including all pre and post assignments. You will be expected to join a one hour long weekly Zoom meeting with your organization and project group. You will have one assignment per week (approximately 5 hours in length) that will be due before the zoom meeting, and a final project due at the end of the course. You will also complete a self-paced Global Citizenship Leadership training as part of this course. After completing all course work, APW will provide you a completion letter from UCLA for the 36 educational hours, and United Planet will also provide a bonus certificate for participating in their Global Citizenship Leadership training. This class is a total of 36 hours (equivalent to 3 credits). You will need access to a smart device to participate in the live meetings and submit your work. Cameras must be on at all times during virtual meetings and internet connection must be stable.
*Weekly live meetings will be held via Zoom on Thursdays (October 15th, October 22nd, October 29th, November 5th) at 5 pm PST / 8 pm EST from Costa Rica.
If you have a conflict with one or more of the live session dates/times, please contact email@example.com to discuss possible alternatives
